All hope for the safety of the 203 entombed miners at Eccles has been •abandoned.

Flames drive back the gangs of rescuers.

(Received April 30, noon.) WASHINGTON, April 29.

Sixty-seven were rescued alive from the New River colliery after all hope had been abandoned. There are still 170 entombed behind the flames, and the mine authorities are afraid there is not the slightest hope of rescuing them.
