SIR JOHN RAMSDEN.

The death is announced of Sir John Ramsden, the sole'landlord of the town of Huddersfield. He made over his estate to his eon four years ago. His death recalls the between Sir John Ramsden and his tenants, eventually leading to legislation in 1867 defining the relations of landlord and tenant.

(Sir John William Ramsden, the fifth baronet, was born in 1831, and succeeded his grandfather in 1839. As a Liberal he sat'in the House of Commons at different periods for Taunton, Hythe, West Riding of Yorkshire, Monmouth, East Division of West Ridjng of Yorkshire, and Osgoldcross Division, retiring in 1886. He was under-Secretary of State for War in 1857 and 1858. Sir John Ramsden owned about. 150,000 acres.)
