MANY STRIKES
FIVE IN SYDNEY YESTERDAY TROUBLE OVER "NON-UNION CHAFF/' (Press Association. —Copyright). (Received 10.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. There is a large crop of minor strikes in different parts of the Commonwealth. There voi-.e Tin fewer than five distinct strikes in Sydney ypsterday, mostly through men being disrrissed for various reasons. Onlv one looks like spreading—that of carters, who are refusing to handle chaff declared to he "non-union." This strike started at Coolamon. where members of the Australian "Workers' Union struck, and tin- farmers handled their own chaff The tngine-driver, fireman, and guard refused to work the train carrying the chaff, and were dismissed, and others brought it to Sydney. Now the carters refuse to touch the chaff. The Federation of Labour upholds the striker^ The Employers' Federation will support the Master Carriers' Association iti any steps taken.
