COOK ISLANDS
A STATE OF UNREST.
(United Pkess Association.)
WELLINGTON, This Day. The "Times", says that there is a state of unrest in the Cook Islands, and the Tutanekai will go there in the middle-of. next "month, /taking the Governor and. Messrs- Herdman and Pomare. Two warships will accompany the party. For some time past it has been understood that the Governor would make the trip to the islands, partly for pleasure and partly for observation, and wuld be accompanied by one Minister. The "Times" also says that a- petition was brought to New Zealand in January by two chiefs; but they were unable to see Dr. Pomare, Native Minister.
A DENIAL.
WELLINGTON, This Day
Mr Herries says that the visit of Ministers to the Cook Islands has nothing to do with anw*" reported unrest. It had Been arranged some months- ago at the Tequest of the Governor. So far as he knows, the statement that two -warships are to accompany the party is without foundation.
