Mr Allen, Minister o'f Defence, stated to-day that there is every jjrospect of H.M.S. Philomel biing handed over to the New Zealaufl Government ill a few -weeks' time. The In:perial authorities have to find a commander who will be naval adviser to the Government, and also a crew who will have to sign for probably three years. The Minister also said he had had a number of applications from young men willing to enter a course of training for the British Navy, for which the Philomel is to be utilised. There is accommodation for about 50 men, .-and Mr Allen docs not anticipate any difficulty in getting that number.
