PERMANENT PICTURES. A large and enthusiastic audience witnessed' the excellent change screened at the Theatre Royal last, eyeninfr, the star feature "The Battie of Manila," f\n Edison military drama, being thoroughly appreciated. To-night another splendid collection of varied subjects will be submitted, headed l by a Cines production entitled "The Pretty Ward." This story is told lay perfect pictures and brilliant acting of renowned artists, disclosing a girl's trials in endeavouring to save her brother's reputation, and • shows how she ultimately contrives to outwit a clever and unscrupulous individual, but not before many startling adventurer/ are passed through, and numberless difficulties have been overcome. "A Gentleman's Gentleman," by Edison, is an exceedingly powerful drama, which is sure to please. "Sugar Cane Industry," is art educational of unusual interest. Other films are : "Man and his Love Letters," a beautiful coloured Pa the comedy; "Pathe's Gazette,, No. 233"; "Councillor Bobby," a comedy by Vitagraph ; a beautiful animal study tastefully coloured, "The Otter"; and "Curing' her Extravagance," a Kalem comedy. Motueka will be visited as usual to-morrow. The management announces that a special performance will be given on Saturday niorht as well, when a complete change will be presented. IMPERIAL PICTURES. The final screening of the current series was last night witnessed by another well-satisfied audience, the starpicture especially coming in for much commendation. To-night . a complete change will be presented, featuring Kay Bee's" o-rand masterpiece, "The Army Surgeon." This thrilling story of life and" adventure, love and peril, ©n the Indian frontier is a rerrarkable piece ot photography. beautifully clear, most' ably acted and produced with that un-.j flinrhino- realism that makes tlr.s dra-. ma tic offering -one of the most popular picture-plays'of the day. The support-] in"- items are an excellent lot, and include the famous C, and M. comic, "Billv's Bull Dog," an absolute m>l-t;h--compeUer; "The Mountain Gitl s SellSacrifice," "The War Correspondent, and "The Sheriff's Story," comprise the dramatic side of the series; further comics are. "The MaA who Couldn t Laugh," and "The Borrowed Flat j whilst "Buffalo Hunting in Indo-Chma | is a beautiful coloured Pathe scenic. This fine bill of fare is bound to attract large audiences, and patrons are reminded that'seats may be reserved at Alf- Robinson's, Hardy-street, tree ot extra charge.
