MOTHERLAND AND THE DOMINIONS
LORD DENHAM AND MR MYERS HONOURED. (Pbess Association.—Copyright). (Received March 4, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, March 3. Mr Harcourt presided, at the Empire Parliamentarians' luncheon to Lord Denham and Mr Myers at the House of Commons. The Duke of Argyll, Lord Brice, Lord Plunkett, Mr Robinson and many M.'sP. and their wives were present. Lord Emmet, in proposing the health of the guests, paid a tribute to Australia's and New Zealand's reception of the British Parliamentarians. Their social legislation was deeply interesting. It was inspired by the desire to benefit the millions rather than the millionaires. Lord Denham advocated that the State Parliaments should be incorporated in the Parliamentary Association on the same terms as the Commonwealth. Britishers often forgot the States had sovereign rights. Mr Myers, M.P., New Zealand, detailed the reproductive character of the New Zealand debt, the popularity of the defence system. He also explained the tendencies to social legislation. Lord Argyll said that the Motherland should "take hints from the Dominions' experience. The Dominions, in many aspects of idemocracy were older that ourselves, and had given us a lead in making patriotic sacrifices on behalf of defence.
