THE ANNESBROOK CROSSING.
To the Editor. Sir, —As one who happened to be :i passenger by Saturday s morning train when tin- regrettable accident occurred at the Aiiuesbrook cvossiiiif. I ieel that we should not let the occasion pass ■without more fully emphasising the urgent- need for some adequate protection at this crossing. It is admitted to be one of the worst level crossings in the Dominion, and may perhaps be best described as -a man-trap. Drivers and other railway official must be continuallv placed In circumtances which are unnerving to say the least of them, at this place. Fortunately the train on Saturday was travelling at -a moderate >peed or a fatality might have resulted. I should suggest that combined public action be .taken, initiated' preferably bv the. Waimen County Council. the members of wh;ch. I feel sure would be but too pleased to lend hearty cooperation. After the warnings experienced at 1.10 place the Railway Department should be made to realise the need of protection before a worse accident <>>' even a fatality occurs. T am. etc. FRANK COLF.MAW
