STRUCK BY A TRAIN.
PALMERSTON N.,' Dec. 22. An old man named Stratford was the victim of an open crossing accident at 7.30 this evening. When a goods train was passing the Post Office he was crossins the line, and apparently did 'not hbar the train approaching. He was struck by the engine, and. thrown clear of the line. He was taken; to the hospital, ..where it was found that he was suffering from concussion of the brain. Very little hope is entertained '.for his recovery.
'BODY FOUND IN WELLINGTON -HARBOUR. WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. Tlie body of a woman was found floating in the' harbour this evening, and \vas later identified 3s that of Mrs H. Temple-White, daughter-in-law of the Rev. J. H. White. The defceased only came down from Feilding recently. Sho had been suffering from mental depression ' for some time, and had been missing for, about ten days. h-. CAR RUNS OVER AN EMBANK-
MENT. THREE PERSONS INJURED. WESTPORT, Dec. 22. A motor accident occurred on the Buller Gorge road to-day whereby. Mrs Tyers, wife of Mr Tyers formerly of the Income Tax Department, fractured a. leg. An eight-year-j old lad named Liddy •fractured a. thigh, and a, man named Bowman was severely bruised. Several others woi'e in the car, which ran away just as the drivers had changed at the top of ■ Burley's Hill, .and went over an embankment,'but the rest escaped with slight .-in furies.. The car was badly damaged. .At the hospital to-night. Mrs Tver's fractured leg was amputated above; "the ankle. TWO MEN KILLED BY A FALL OF STON'Ei'*- . SYDNEY, Dec. 22. A fall of stone in a quarry at Manly killed two men named Kiucaidl and Highley.
