In addressing a gathering at the opc-n----ing of a model kindergarten at South Dnnedin yesterday, the Hon. James <Uleri Minister of Education, mentioned that representative of the Kindergartens Associations had recently met in \\ clli««rto'n to consider, amone other things, the question of training kindergarten teachers on a systematic plan. A certain Vne of action had boon agreed upon and within the last week or so they had approached him as Minister of Education with suggestions. One of the matters they had agreed upon was that then teachers should be more definitely lecognised bv the State, and they had asked the Government to assist them by examining these teachers in such a way that there would be a definite standaid set which in the one case would be equal to the standard set for kindeiK art«n teachers at Home, and which in the other case wonld be the standard for New Zealand. He had referred the niafcter to the Department for a Teport as to wether it was possible for tho State to undertake the examinations. Ho believed the Department would be able to undertake the work, and he looked fc/rward to the time when many ot these teachers with the Government mark -upon them would drift into the public schools.—Press Associaiton.
