I Tlie following appointments and transfers are announced in connection with the Customs Department, consequent on tiie death of Mr Elliott, late Collector at Christchurch : —Mr J. Wratt, collector at I'nvercaririll, to be collector at Christchurch ; Mr Howley, collector at Timaru, to be collector at Invevcargill; Mr W. Rose, Wellington, to be collector it Timaru ; Mr J . Maclaurin, landing surveyor at Christchurch, to occupy a similar position at Wellington; Mr W. Howarth, Greymoutb, succeeds Mr Maclaurin ; Mr Herd, Auckland, to be Collector at Greymouth,- Mr J. Nichol, clerk ait Nelson, to be transferred to Wellington as junior landing waiter.
