OBITUARY
LOUIS BECKE (Paß33 Association. —Copyright.) SYDNEY", Feb. 18. A Sydney cable reports the death of Louis Becke, the noted novelist. ' The late Mr George L. Becke was born at Port Macquarie, 'New South Wales, in 1848. Fo'r many years he was a trader and supercargo, and thus acquired wide knowledge of the Islands and native customs, which was subsequently used in his books. He was a. Fellow of .the Royal Geographical Society. FOUND DEAD IN BED. (Received 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY".. This Day. Louis Becltc was found dead in .bed at the York Hotel ,where he was staying. Evidently he had been working before retiring, as freshly written sheets of iranuscript were found on the table. He had been in ill-health for some time, suffering from an affection of the throat, but he paid several visits on Monday.
