TRIBUTE TO CAPTAIN OATES

A fellow-officer with Captain Oates- in the lnniskilling Dragoons says that he was the most stalwart man and the best officer he ever knew. He could geimoi'e out- of men than any other officer. He was clever beyond the ordinary, and a great geologist. Nothing was too hard for him to do. -YUSTRALIAX CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCOTT FUND. (Received 9.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE. This Day. Mr. Fisher has approved of Mr. Hughes' suggestion that- the Commonwealth and State Governments contribute to the Scott fund. The States are being approached with regard to the matter.
