Lord and Lady Liverpool give a garden party in the Government House grounds; "Wellington, this afternoon, conhnencing at 4 o'clock. Hon. .Lieutenant Colonel J. Hugh Bcscawen, Auckland, is gazetted extra aide-de-camp to the Governor.; The appointment of Mr J. J. Craig as Chilian Consul at Auckland is gazetted. Dr. S. T- Champtaloup has been appointed port health officer at Dunedin. Mr Robert McDuff Birrell has resigned his position as a member of the Hawke's Bay Land Board. It was stated at -a meeting of the Canterbury Typographical Union on Saturdav that one of the life-member 3 of the union. Mr G. S. Porter, would reach his hundredth birthday on March 18th thereby earning the distinction of being the oldest known living compositor. The Rev. H. Parata, who was for some time curate at St. Paul's Cathedral in Dunedin, has accepted a position as colleacue to- the vicar ot Kenmngton Faiish Church. Mr Parata will remain in this office for two years. „ \lr R MoGiil- one of the oldest and best-known chief engineers in the Union Company's service, has retired from the sea. Mr. McGill. who has been at sea has served m a number of the Union Company's ships, and for some years ua-st has been chiet engineer on the Kittawa. Mr Christian Helleman, A.R.C.M., has been appointed conductor of the Royal Wellington Choral Society vice Mr Mughan Barnett. Mr Helleman was recently runner up for the appointment of city organist in Sydney, and - Applying for the position of city organic Wellington. He is 40, and married. —Press wire.
