NEW ZEALANDER KILLED AT SYDNEY. (Precis Association. —Cop*b»ghi.> SYDNEY, Feb. 10./ A man named John Rankin, who was employed on the North Shore railway, was struck by an engine and succumbed to his injuries. The police report that his parents reside in New Zealand. TWO RESCUERS DROWNED. (Rec. 10.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Owing to the capsizing of a vehicle in Kaywell Creek, near Gundy, Alan Seaward (aged nine) and Keith Barr (19), who went to t'e rescue, were both drowned. The stream was swollen with storm water. AUCKLAND WATERSIDER KILLED. AUCKLAND, Feb.- 10. A fatal accident occurred on board the, steamer Matatua. at the railway wharf, this afternoon, when a waterside worker named Ernest Alfred Bowles received such fearful injuries that he expired almost immediately. The deceased was working the cargo in the hold_ when a case became detached from a sling, and fell 35 feet, striking- the' unfortunate man a terrific blow "on the left temple. a wife and three-children.

The present makes a total of 30 accidents which have occurred to wjatersiders on the Auckland wharves since December 30th, two of which have proved fatal.

The watersiders decided at the last general meeting that in future all woi-k should cease on the wharves for 24 hours in the case-of a member of- the union being killed, or dying-from injuries received while working on the wharves. All the shipping companies were notified to this effect. The secretary of the union informed the reporter that as far as he could at present, state the decision arrived at by this union would be carried into effect in the present case. ACCIDENTALLY SHOT. THAMES, Feb. 10. In connection with the death of Alexander Dunlop, aged 27 years, who died from injuries received from a gunshot wound in the stomach last night, it >s presumed that after cleaning the. gun, the deceased loaded it, and was in the act of putting it away when ; it caught in a box. The contents were discharged, Diuilop receiving a fearful wound in the abdomen. Medical assistance was called in, but the man was dead before a doctor"arrived.

At. tlie inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned.
