He locked the bedroom, and "pocketed the key. Later, Roe desired to enter,, and she accompanied him. Roe-looked at.something. After he was asleep she searched the death room alone, - arid found a man's handkerchief ■ '(not her son's) with an empty cachet beneath.. It had been opened 1 with a pin or a knife. She did not believe her son died by his own hand. ■-•■ • Roe's evidence will be taken en Thursday.
(The dead man, Hugh Trevanipn, was a oraiidson of the late Sir Daniel Cociper (first ba-ronet of the line}, who foijmerly resided in New South Wales (his father Keing a. Sydney .merchant), and who, in 1856', was elected first speaker of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, a position he held for four y.ears\ At his deaLh he was succeeded bv : Ms son, Sir Daniel Cooper (second baronet).-. - The, latter died in 1909, and' was succeeded by his brother, Sir William Charles Cooper, the present holder of the title. Trevanioh's mother, who was formerly Miss. Florence Eva .Cooper, is a sister of the present baronet. An .interesting incident in. connection with Mrs. Trevanion's marriage Vis that after obtaining a-divorce she was re-marred to her husband. In 1882 she married Hugh Aiiui-, dell Trevanioiii only son of Hugh Charles Trevanion an<] Lady Frances, his wife, sister of the Earl of Stiathmore. The marriage.was, oh Mrs". petition, dissolved in 1887, but' in 1800 she remarried Mr. Trevanipn. Dody Northland, wife of Viscount "Northland (son of Loiyi Ranfurly, ex-Governor cf New Zealand) was formerly Miss,.Hilda Cooper. She is a. daughter.of tlis-eecond Sir Daniel Cooper.)
