THE GENERAL SYNOD.
THE nineteenth General Synod of the Church of the Province of New Zealand concluded its business' last evening, after sitting for nine days. It is eighteen years since a General Synod was previously held in Nelson, a'nd during that period many changes have itaken place, both in the development of the -Church and in the personnel of the delegates. Puring the session just concluded many important m'easnres'bea'i'ing on the Constitution of the Church, besides other matters:, have been ably discussed, and, in some instances, given effect to. As the Most Rev. the Primate (Bishop Nevill) remarked in hfs concluding address last evening, the session has been not (Ally an -extremely happy 1 , but an extremely useful, one. He went on to say that he hardly recalled any session over which he had presided in which so many useful measures had been passed. This condition of affairs, no doubt, was in large measure due to the manner in which the debates were conducted. Some sharp differences of opinion were shown during the discussions; but delegates at all tinles took a broad view of such (matters, and realised that, however they might differ, the opinions ventilated were brought forward in good faith, and with one object—the good of the Church. It w.'ls fully Apparent that members realised their high responsibilities ; and they were at- all tiires helped by the tact and courtesy displayed by the Primate. The Nelson community has been pleased to extend hospitality to the visitors; and the valedictory speeches made last evening amply demonstrated that this had been appreciated. It is trusted 'that the visitors will return to their homes with pleasant recollections of the Synod of 1913.
