SALES OF WORK

THREE HELD THIS AFTERNOON. Thre e sales of work were held this afternoon, and will be continued thi6 evening. All the morning willing helpers were busily engaged in making preparations, and this afternoon, despite the wet weather, the sales were opened to the public. THE WOOD SUNDAY SCHOL. The sale of work in connection with the Wood Sunday School was opened in the hall, .Milton-street, this afternoon by the Bishop of Nelson. In declaring the sale open, Bishop Sadlier congratulated those responsible for the organisation of the function, and expressed the hope that the well-laden stalls would be well-depleted by purchasers. Much care has been taken to make the hall look attractive, and the stalls have •been so arranged to display the goods to the best advantage. Although the weather was wet this afternoon, there was a fair attendance of the public, and it is hoped that this evening good business will be done. In addition to the usual attractions, a concert will be given to-night, at which several well-known amateurs will assist. The stalls and stall-holders are : Produce Stall: Mrs : Cotton ; assistants, Misses Ivy Johnston, Eileen Harris, and Watson. Work Stall: Mi6s bealy; assistants, Misses Capper and Dayman. Sweets Stall: Mrs L. Dixon ; assistants, Misses E. Dayman and M. Mitchell. _ Tea Kiosk : Mesdames Dayman and H. Rudman; assistants, Misses Greenfield, Stewart, and Dayman. Bran Tub : Miss L. Sloan. The competitions resulted as follows, Mr. Adam Day being the judge : Scones : Mrs D. Hurley. Fruit Cake : Miss Stewart (special prize). Sponge Roll: Mr Boyes. Tarts: Miss E. Dayman 1. Decorated Sponge : Mrs Grimmett. Sponge Sandwich: Miss E. Hair. PORT SOWERS' BAND SALE. The Port Sowers' Band Sale was opened by Mrs Lucas, wife of the Vicar, and there was a goodly number of people-pre-sent The various articles had beet) prettily arranged, and those present had much to choose from. There should ho a larcre attendance this evening The following are the stall holders:— Work Stall: Mesdames Harris and Cooke. .' Produce Stall: Miss Lukins. Sweets Stall: Miss Vickerrnan. _ Tea Rooms: Mesdames Lukins and Gabrielson. . __., j Fairv Well: Mrs and Miss Kidson and Mr Cooke, and others assisting. ST. MARY'S. The sale of work in connection with St Mary's Church was opened this atternoon'by the Rev. Father Goggan. The stalls were well laden with, gctod things, and those present spent an enjoyable afternoon. A special feature is the Christmas tree, which contains no les3 than 400 articles, and every ticketholder will receive a reward. The sale will be continued this evening, when it is expected a large number of people will be present. The following are the stallholders : Plain and fancy stall : ,Mesdames Vaughan and M'Quane, Misses Dimant and Watson. Christmas tree: Miss Bunny. Sweets stall: Misses Ward and Clark. Tea kiosk: Mrs Gilbert Ward, and Misses Dunne, Clark, Roughton, and Fraser.
