Barrie, M.P., for Londonderry iN., speaking at Eglington ,said j that under the prospective provisional j government Ulster would willingly con- | tinue to pay a fair share of all Imperial ! charges and the maintenance of the j Army and Navy, but no power on earth j would compel loyalists to pay taxes aiiy portion of which would go to subsidise the rebel elements represented by Rsd-m-ond, Dillon and Company, or the Molly Maguires headed by Mr. Joe Devlin. THE EDUCATION QUESTION. LONDON., August 28. Th« Commissioners of National Education. in Ireland, composed of Protestants and Roman Catholics, being unable to obtain an interview with the Premier or Mr. Birrell .in connection with the provision for primary education under the Home Rule Bill, communicated a memorandum to the press showing that the expenses of the department were increasing automatically, and urgent reforms were long. overdue, yet under the Bill the existing position would be stereotyped. The normal development of the administration would cease unless the Home Rule Government could effect savings in other public departments or impose fresh' taxation on tlie Irish taxpayers.
