Mr William Ferguson, managing director of the Wellington Gas Company, in giving evidence before the Cost of Living Commission as to the price of gas. quoted the following figures : 1891, 7s 6d per 1000 ft; 1900, 6s 3d; 1905, 5s sd. ,The ration of expenditure to income had increased almost 10 per cent, during the last 20 years.
