RESUMPTION |OF THE INQUEST. VERDICT OF ACCIDENTAL DEATH The adjourned inquest into the cause of the motor-car accident on Spooner's Range on' Monday morning, by" which Dr. Hudson lost his life, was resumed at Belgrove this morning, before Mr. H. J. Harris, J.P. Acting-Coroner, and the following jury :—Messrs E. Holland (foreman), H. Holland, Banks, Price, Nesbitt and Burlace-Pote. Godiva Hudson, daughter of the deceased, and who was the other occupant of the car at the time of the accident, deposed that she left Tapawera at 8 o'clock on Monday morning, in company with her;..father, to drive to Nelson. When qoming down Spooner's Range, and while going round a corner, the car suddenly went over the bank. The first thing she knew afterwards was that she was standing by the side of her father. She spoke to him, but he was dead. By the foreman ; Do you know if your father's eyesight was affected ?—He \vas very shortsighted. Was he at all nervous I—Not at all. You felt quite safe?—l had every confidence in; him. Bv the police: Can you say what side of the car you were : thrown out?— No. By the jury : Were you.on the l'oad o r 'iiear the car ?•—I was about four feet from the car. Was this your father's first trip over Scooner's Range ?—Yes. . By the police :Can you say when, you were thrown out?—l think I was thrown out. before the car struck the bottom. The car was running free. I think it Was on the second gear. , ; Evidence also given by Dr. Pearless. " " The jury returned the following verdict "That" Dr.; Jas. Hudson accidentally killed.'*-bv the capsize of liis motor-car, which -was being' driven by hinipelf on Spooner's Ranee." ;• The following rider was added.:—"We recommend that all drivers of motor-cars should hold a certificate of competency." !' ■
