Such, however, was not the case : the College vanguard played up splendidly, and both in the scrum and the loose work more than held their own. Waimea attacked early in the game, but Everett relieved with a good kick. After a series of scrums from knocks-on diu to the difficulty in holding the slippery ball. Waimea again pressed ; but good work by Pere and Everett saw College temporarily eased. Waimea, however, were not to be denied and College were soon busy again defending. From a scrum a. few yards in front of the posts the ball came out to Challies, who essayed a pot. The ball went wide and College forced. From the drop out 'College rush ed the ball to the other 25 line, and a, free kick to them allowed Prussing to drop-kick an excellent goal. College 3. Waimea 0. Waimea now took a hand in the attack and for an obstruction were awarded a free kick. Challies evenid the scores by kicking a good goal. College 3, Waimea 3. I-falt'-time sounded shortly after. For a few minutes after re-commencement College were kept busy, but Everett oiue more saved by running well past half-way. From the throw-out the Waimea forwards worked well down the field, but Berlhtdson by good dribbling- took the ball back almost to their line. It appeared as if College jvould score here, but the Waimea defence was too strong. During the last few minutes Waimea set up a hot attack and made desperate efforts to sccre. The ball came out to Ford, who made a dash for the line and narrowly misled a. try. College were still kept busy until a- free kick gave them relief. The whistle sounded with play about half-way. Ths College are to be complimented upon their excellent display. Pere and Berthelson -showed up most, but cverv man worked hard. The backs handled the ball well, Everett especially playing fin.T game. His taking, kicking and rush-stepping were all of a high order. In the Waimea. forwards Best and Hammond were the pick. Challies, Ford, and Wilkes were the best of the backs. Mr. Cannington refereed.

The representative game between Wellington and Nelson was played on St. Patrick's College, Wellington, ground on Saturday, which the Nel-on team described as the worst tbey hrd ever pJaved on. A typical Wellington gale, with heavy rain showers, was experience throughout the afternoon, and a good display of the sra-me was out of the qtiestion. Wellington, with the wind in their favour in the first spell, put up 19 points—five tries, two being cnnvcrtod. In the second half Nelson more than .held their own. and had decidedly the best- of the soell. putting on 6 points, scored by Kinzett, and Beckley—while their opnonents failed to increase their snell total.
