ORDERLY BEHAVIOUR OF THE MINERS.
MONSTER PROCESSION THIS AFTERNOON. GROCERS AND "SPOT CASH." (United Pkess Association.) WAIHI, May 21. Since the commencement of the strike of the Waihi miiK'rs last Monday week .3 feature has been the orderly behaviour ■c-i the men. There are 110 fresh developments. A monster procession is to take piaoe in the main street to-morrow aitcrnoon, ■ajjd a sports meeting will be heid. A deputation, representing the grocers *jf the town. waite-a upon the strike com"raittee of the Miners" Union, and placed their position before the committee. This was found necessary in view of the severe criticism levelled against grocers following their decision to conduct business 011 cash principles during principles of strike. Tile <leputat:on pointed out that they were compelled to adopt such methods in the face of notifications received from tile Merchants' Association, and the 'liamcs Valley Dairying ' Association, etc., to the effect that all orders must inow be accompanied by cash. The gro■ccrs could not carry "on without cash, therefore they had no other alternative in the matter. The deputation received a good hearing at tlie haaids oi" the committee, and it was stated that the latter's decision an the matter would be put at the nextJnass meeting m the shape 01 & resolution. COMPANIES AND MINING RIGHTSWAIHI, This Day. Applications have been lodged in the local Warden's Court by the Waihi Coir - pany for six months' protection for all their claims and 70 subsidiary rights, including water-races, dams, special sites, etc., for hearing on the 14th June. The Grand Junction Company has also lodged a similar application for 25 subsidiary eights. On the 29th inst. application "will be made for fourteen days' summaiy protection, for the above claims and rights, so as to carry them on till the time when the ordinary applications (which require sixteen days' notice) can be heard. The Waihi Extended Company has also applied in the same way for six months' protection for their two claims. The grounds given for the applications are that owing to labour troubles in \Vaihi_. the companies are not in a position to man the properties, and (in connection with the application foT protection of subsidiary rights) that they are not in a position to use such privileges.
