At the inter-varsity lawn t«nnis tournament in the combined doubles, second round. Miss Croft' and Jennings (Canterbury) beat Miss Farnie and Thomson (Otago) 6—o, 6—2. Miss Tennant and Cleghorn (Wellington) beat. Miss Hunt and Partridge (Otago) 6—l, 6—2. AUCKLAND V. TARANAKI. AUCKLAND, April 8. The North Island inter-assocration lawn tennis championships began on Saturday, and were.resumed to-day. Auckland and Taranaki met to decide the premiership of the North Island. In the men's singles Wallace (Taranaki) beat Dr. Keith (Auckland). In the ladies' doubles Misses Gray and Cunningham (Auckland) beat Misses Powdrell and Brewster 6—l, 6—2. In the ladies' singles Miss Powdrell, after a stubborn fight, beat Miss Gray 6 —2, 4 —6, 6—l. Auckland made a much better show than was expected, and with the combined doubles still to be plaved, each province, has six wins to its credit.
