CUT OF ONLY g-INCH REQUIRED. CLEVELAND, January 24. Operations for appendicitis, thought to have- been perfected several years ago when li-inch incisions were found to be adequate. have been still further simplified, according to announcement made to surgeons of thy Cleveland Academy of Medicine. This sets forth that an incision of but three-fourths of an inch is necessary, permitting the patient to leave the bed within 24 hours after the operation. Description of the operation is given in the Cleveland "Journal of Medicine," just issued. Briefly, it reads: . short incision ma>de o\er the appendix. No mueclc or fibre 3 are cut. These are instead separated just enough to admit the introduction of the index finger with which a care/u. examination is made of all the structure, - has verified the diagnosis, the appendix i s brought to the surface with the hooked index finger After the appendix is delivered, the rest of the operation is c-=y.
