There was evidence of strained relations between the Ministry and the Railway Commissioner when a deputation asked Mr. Dacey to grant money for the electrification of the Newcastle trams. The Mayor of Newcastle declared t'hat Mr. Johnson, the Commissioner, said he was only waiting for money. Mr. pacey replied that 'Mr. Johnson already had enough on his hands. If he got the farmers', wheat to the seaboard Ihe would do something to be appreciated.
