THE FLEMINGTON MEETING

FLEMINGTON, March 9

The Flemington meeting was continued to-day. Rain fell from early morning, but cleared off at noon. The programme contained an extra item, which attracted considerable attention, and in which D. Clarke and R. M. Hawker contended the merits of Wolwa and Tadanga. It was decided that the match should be a straight six furlongs, for £SOO a-side, the Club allowing the

There were fourteen runners. Won by five lengths, six lengths separating the next two. Time 1.29£. Gibson Stakes.—Fedan 1, Hunringa 2, Allconner 3. Other starters were : Gold Brew, Cider, Deeside, Kwasind, and Blairmount. Blairmount took charge at the turn, but Fedari caught up at the half-distance, and won by 1A lengths, two lengths dividing second and thrid. Time 1.29£. Place Handicap.—Matouree 1, Flaith 2, Hallowmas 3. Others who ran were : Eyeglass, Kurnell, Flavian, and Flavel. Eyeglass led out of the straight, then Flavian went to the front, and led from Eyeglass, Flavel, Kurnell, Flaith, Hallowmas, and Matouree. The order was unchanged loathe turn, where Flavian took command from Flavel and Flaith, the rest of the field being bunched. Flavel led at the distance from Matouree and • Flavian, but Matouree put in a very, fast run, Hallowmas also challenging, and won by two lengths, a neck separating the two following horses. Time 2.39|. Steeplechase: Leah Kleslina 1, Big Bob -2, Don Q 3. . Also started : Nigel, Hautapu, Alert, Dream, and Acute Angle. Hautaupu led the field for two miles, and ijeah then took charge from Bib Bob and Acute Angle. The latter fell; and Leah romped hbirie by ten lengths, twenty lengths dividing thenext two. Time 6.32£. Alert, Dream, and Nigel also fell. Champion Stakes. —Trafalgar 1, PrizeFighter 2, Indiscreet 3. No, others .ran. lnuiscreet led foi' the first mile, but Trafalgar led for the remainder, and won easily by three lengths, Indiscreet being a furlong behind. Time 5.55. The cheering commenced when Trafalgar entered the straight. Farewell Handicap: Braw Scot 1, Mashtuh 2, Ptah 3. There were eighteen runnel's. Ptah and Mashtun made the -running. Wassail, Almissa, Honey, and Wood feil. Won by.half a neck, p. neck dividing the next horses. Time 1.41. SYDNEY, March 9. Sunburnt won the Flying Handicap at Moorefield. N.J.C. ACCEPTANCES. Acceptances for the Nelson Jockey Club's annual meeting, to be held on March 20t.h and 21st, close with the secretary (Mr J. Glen) at Mercer's rooms this evening.
