CONVICT'S HOME-COMING.

FINDING ALL FRIENDS DEAD, EX PRISONER ENDS HIS XIFE.

. How cruelly hard the way of the transgressor is sometimes made by the law is exemplified by the gad story which comes from Milan of an ex-convict, one Geremia Buoncore. Sixty-three years of age, he was released from a convict prison' where he had ibeen serving 18 years for the crime of homicide. Penniless and broken by infirmities Buoncoi'e was sent to his native town in the Province of Cremona, where he expected to find shelter with the only relative he knew of., a brother.

To his grief he found that his brother was dead, and, shunned by everybody and refuse shelter, the wretched man mae his way to Milan. Here, for some slight contravention, of ft-hfe ticket-of-leave law. Buoncore was again sent to prison. On his release the authorities ordered him to return to his native town and take -up his abode there. "How can I live " he exclaimed. But to that the law gave no answer except ihat he must, obey its mandate. Later tJ- e body of an unknown man was found in the Villoresi Canal. Nobody identified it. and, after beintr photographed, the body was buried.

And now, after three months, a nephew of the unfortunate ex-convict, on seeing by the purest chance the photograph of the body, recognised the por trait as that of his uncle. The identification was perfect, but the Tecoq-.ni-tion had come too late. Geremia Buoncore had become a victim of man's inhumanity to man.
