TENDERS TO BE INVITED
V m'eeiing of the Pitt Memorial Li.iiiiuittee wa s held last evening, when tlie following were present: The Mayor (Mr T. A. H. Field), and Messrs Pell. .Hamilton. Uamp-on, Ednimds, A. H. Hisley. Rogers, Captain Hammond and the Secretary (Mr R. W. t>:ilos). The Mayor presided. At the request of the Minister for PuMie Works (Mr R- McKoiizie) it. n';tb deuided to meet him oil Tluirsdav liexr.
It was lii.aninifiislv decided to call for tenders for the reconstruction of the Church Hill Step s as a memorial in accordance with the full scheme designed by Mr A. R GrifHn. During the meeting the Mayor ..ien!>oned that a suggestion had been made that some suitable memorial of the early settlers of the province of Nelson be provided for. and it Was •-•nanimously decided that in conneerion with the steps the architect •i.ake suitable provisiofl* for tablets ;u memory of the old settlers. No difficulty was anticipated in obtaining a sufficient sum of money to defray the cost of memorial to the early settlers.
