"Last evening the first meeting 1 of the session int connection with the Young Men's Society was held in the Baptist Schoolroom, there being a good number of young men present. The evening was occupied with the business of electing officers and' the formation of rules. .A syiLLabus will be immediately drawn up, and made as instructive and interesting a.s possible for the ensuing term. All young men are invited to attend, anil they will be warmly welcomed to 6pend a pleasant evening with the society.
It was inadvertently stated yesterday that it was' in the Rival-College junior football match that a Rival player had a collar-bone broken. This should have been the Rival-Nelson senior match.
The railway returns on the Nelson section far the period ended May 27th, 1911, show an increase of revenue in both passenger and freight sections as compared with a similar period last year. The total number of passail p-ers who travelled was 7293, as against 7096, and 3137' tons. of merchandise were carried, as against 3041 tons, the revenue received being- £2057 14s 3d, as against £2025 10s sd'.
A treat is in store for the people of Richmond to-morrow (Wednesday) evening, when the Rev. C. Eaton will deliver his popular lecture on. the wit and wisdom of Oliver Wendell Holmes.
The monthly meeting of the Nelson Anglers' Club wilL be held to-morrow evening, whet probably the weekly Euchre challenge match will 1 also be clayed, and' the Club card tournaments for the buckles (cribbage and euchre) will be continued. A good attendance is requested.
The fortnightly meeting of the Nelson Debating Society will be held at the Chamber of Commerce Rooms to-morrow ervening, when the subject for debate will be "That it is .essential for the safety of the British Empire that Great Britain should, adopt a. system of compiilso-'y military training." To-morrow afternoon, at 3 o'clock, at the Foresters' Hall, Collingwood-street. Miss Grimley, wliosc talks on the temperance question have boon so much appreciated, has consented to lecture at Richmond in the OddfelHall 011 Thursday next at 7.45 [..in., 011 ''Temperance Reform in Ino Old Land." Admission is free, but a 'collection will be made on behalf of tlie of the local branch of the No-License League.
An advertisement appears in this issue announcing the dissolution o£ (partnership in \he well-known firm of Messrs W. Rout and Sons. Mr Wm. Rout will carry on the business under the old style as heretofore, and Mr Geo. Rout has opened new offices on his own account in Trafalgar-street. Mr Geo. Rout being Secretary of the Permanent Building Society, the business of the Society will be transacted at his offices, and he has taken over the Sun Insurance Company's agency.
At the weekly meeting of the W.y.M.T. Literary and Debating Soe'erv to be held this evening there will be a debate on the subject, "Is it Practicable to Abolish War?" As announced elsewhere, visitors will be cordially welcomed. "The meetings are held in St. John's Schoolroom, Hardy-stree.t.
The s.s. Matatua was taking in frozen meat, all last night, and finished loading this afternoon. She sailed for London via Wellington and other nortg on this afternoon's tide.

A dance in connection with the Brigade will be held in the Reeliabice Hall to-morrow ev.ening.
A large number of members of ill? Loyal Nelson Good Templars Lodge .nei at the residence of Sister Fairey, lue District Deputy, last evening to meet; Sister Grimlev, the recently arrived missionary from England. In "a hearty and kindly speech the District-Deputy gave a hearty welcome to Sister Grimley, iu:d expressed the hope that Tier mission in New Zealand would prove successful. A programme comprising songs, recitations, and musical selections was given .and a happy time was spent. A very h'-e.: y vote of thanks was accorded. r--> riisv-sv Fairey for her hospitality.
