Within an hour of the semi-official announcement that Franco-Spanish differences respecting Morocco had been settled, the German intervention cama as a bolt from' the blue. WHAT GERMANY CLAIMS. PROTECTIO , r OF .AGRICULTURE AND COMMERCE. GERMAN FIRMS AND THEIR ENTERPRISE. (Rec. July 3, 3 1.40 a/m.) BERLIN, Sunday. The "Kolnische Zeitung 5 ' states that larg'e cultivated tracts in the vicinity of Agadir and far into the hinterland belong to- German firms, and that the property of one alone equals the size of a principality. Another firm employs- 120 hands, including GO commercial agents who- are German .proteges. The paper adds that German trade in Southern Morocco has latterly greatly expanded. The bulk of such goods, though appearing in the statistics as British, imported and exported by German firms via England. Germany,' -continues the paper, is also considerably interested in mining in the hinterland.
