DEFENCE.
THE NEW ZEALAND SCHEME. COMPULSORY TRAINING. A CLASH WITH TECHNICAL CLASSES, (Unmed Pbbss Association..) DUNEDIN. Wednesday. It has been generally understood that attendance at drill by cadets enrolled under tike military service conditions would be absolutely compulsory. It has been brought under the notice of the managers of the Dunediu Technical Scliool that pupils attending that school under the compulsory clauses of last year's amending Act are in the position tliat no excuse, eveiii that they were attending military drill, will be regarded as a legitimate excuse for absence front the classes. It seems that the compulsory education provisions and compulsory military provisions both inflict penalties for noil-attendance. The managers of the Technical School, are in communJLcatiion, with the Defence Department, a,nd are also approaching the Minister of Education on the matter.
