The steamer Ivornia., which, when ashore on, the Irish coast, was beached, ha® been refloated.
(The Cunard L iner Ivornia -struck the Da-unt R-cc.k in a- fog, and was beached in Queenstowrii harbour. A -large hole was made in the steamer's bottom; but the watertight bulkheads instantaneously closed, -and thus confined the water to the- forepart, where there is 25 feet of water. There was no,panic. as the officers reassured 728 passengers.)

The water poured through the skylight into.- the saloon, where passengers- were sitting at a- table. A .number of israall vesseis a.re delayed in port owing to the heavy sea outside. THE HIMITANGI-WAIRAU COLLISION. MARINE IN.JUIRY. WELLINGTON, Monday. An inquiry commenced to-day into the collision between the steamers Wairau and Himitangi in the Manawatu river on 16 th May. Dr. Me Arthur presided, with Captains Po.st arid Black as ■assessors. According to the evidence of Captain Mauley, oE the Himitangi, the accidienf; was caused by the Wa ira ii; ib retaking both und'erstaiicl'Liig and rule by crossing ovor to the wrong side. Oliver Mcintyre, mate of the Wairau, said his vesseL was on/ her •stafrboaa'd side of the river, .and if the H'imitaiijgi h.ad kepit her stair board side the vessels •must have passed' in safety. He knew of no undierstandiing by ■which imva;rd'boun.d boats had to wait at the. 'be.md foabeats going the other way. The inquiry is proceeding.
