PROGRESS IN THE SENATE. THE TARIFF PROPOSALS. Association.— CopyRiQHT. WASHINGTON. Sunday. In the SonaH. Mi- Lon.gworth opposed th c wool tariff schedule, other representatives endorsing him. The Democrats have decided to expedite tariff legislation; in preference to aJI other measures. The Senate leaders annomnce sixty votes favouring the passage of tho ReBill, and a larger number against Mr Root's amendment, oenator Penrose has been added to the Reciprocity Bill's friends, who airo unwilling to make lengthy speeches, and anxious to vote a,s early as possible. Mr Smith twitted the Reciprocityites ■with being ashamed' to stand up in the Chamber a-rui champion such a measure. Mr Towns end proposed to introduce .1,11 amendment instructing- Mr Taft to undertake further Canadian negotiations with a view to securing -a wider reciprocity. The Bill passed the second treading, and the debate will be resumed on Monday. A vote on the Wool Tariff Bill is probable on Tuesday or Wednesday. The House of Representatives will hold a Saturday night session with a view to concluding the debate.
