FOOTBALL.
SATURDAY'JS MATCHES. Old Boys (0) v. Waimea (3). Although this match was played with some spirit it was nevertheless a disappointing display ot football that was given., The progress tiie Old Boys had been making l 1 d O!U ' f .° believe that tliey would have been in the position to show the spectators what a really exciting and thrilling "game football is when played properly.. ißut such was not the case. ' The "Waimea men played a good hard game, and tackled well, but their lack of practice together is horribly apparent. If not rectified this will prevent them getting; the senior cup, or. rather, if this team possessed more, combination it would have as good » chance for the cup as anybody. The Old Boys had' rearranged their team, but this v;as a failure. The idea evidently has been to. get as much work out of 51'Kay as possible. But to put hLm in the three<quarter line is to lose his good forward both in tackling and in playing the ball with his feet, and in addition his pace is not fast enough, to enab'e him to be in aaiy 'wav certain' of his im-anx in« tliQ back division. M'lvay was considered to be one of the best all.round forward timii . in \Ve!lingt|On, and his olace is obviously in the pack. Amids-t so much of the scrambling play his finer footwork is not very noticeable, but it is there all the same. It was an even game throughout, and on qu?te a number of occasions each, team was on the point of scoring: Tjie first points secured in the game were for Old Boys, when s M'Kay kicked a good penalty goal. Richmond kicked a fine goal from nearly halfway, and fldded the three points which Old Boys secured.
