SEAMEN'S FEDERATION.
AUSTRALIAN RULES ADOPTED. DUNEDIN, Friday. A ballot of members of New Zealand ibranehes "of the Australasian Federated Seariien's Union has been taken on. the question of adopting the Australian Tules of the Seamen's Federation. The iballot has resulted in an. almost unanimous vote- in favour of adoption, as only 26 votes- in the whole of N.Z. were recorded against the proposal.
Following on this ballot there is to be an informal conference of the secretaries of the Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin- branches on Monday to discuss the next move. *o be made, and some other ma-tt-ers of importance to members. In all probability it will bo necessary to cancel the .present rules and register new ones. Small alterations will be made in the title of the New Zealand Union t° make it uniform, with the Australian Union. With this proposal given effect to there would be one organised bedy of seamen- throughout Australasia, governed by the Australian executive council of fourteen, being two delegates appointed by each branch of the federation, of which New Zealand •branches there will be seven in. ail. The new title of the body will be the Federated Seamen's Union of Australasia.
