NELSON COLLEGE OLD BOYS.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Nelson College Old Hoys' FootDall was held lat't evening at the Chamber of Commerce Koom. About 20 members were present. Mr. J. Houlker presided.

The secretary (Mr. C. Topliss) presented the report as follows : Though not very successful in the . champions-hip fixtures, we Succeeded in winning the Devenish Shield, the Littlejohn Sliield for'the seven-a-side tournament, and also the trophy presented for a special seven-a-side. During, the season we we're severely handicapped, caused by the departure of Messrs Edmondson. Waters, and Vereoe, whose .places it was found difficult to fill. The junior team, again suffered defeat in most of its matches, this being due mainly to the shortage of players. A'i; the . engagements, however, were fulfilled irTboth town and country matchc-c. For the first time since the inauguration of the Devenish Shield .competition the Old Boys' tournament was held in Nelson, during Easter and we succeeded in scoring a decisive victory. Both matches were played at Trafalgar Park. Nelson beat Wellington by 23—0 anc: Ohristchurch by 11—0. Both- match e. were contested, in true sportsmanlike spirit, as Old Boys' matches should be. Your Committee wish to place upon record their appreciation of the service? of Messrs Sandel, Tosswill, Ross, Pettit, Akers and Bensemann, all of whom journeyed' -considerable distances to serve the Old Boys' Club; also Mr. Broad, who kindlv undertook the duties- of referee. The balane-sheet shows a. credit balance of cash in hand £ls 16s 3d. In the various matches the cluib was once raor e well represented, having five members chosen, namely. Messrs Mackay, Batchelor, Vereoe, Har ley and Raharuhi. In the annual mate, versus Marlborough the team was cap tained by Vereoe. In the junior rep. match Chapman was the- only mem-be: selected from the club. Mr. G. 1-tidh-mond's trophy for the best senior for ward has been presented to Madkay. while Mr. Akers' trophy has yet be competed for. The annual ball wa:hcld in July at the School of Music Your Committee wish to record their a.n preciation of the ladies' committee in connection with the ball, the arrange ments made.bv them being highly satisfactory. In conclusion your Committee wish to impress upon the members the absolute necessity of consistent tra-m----ing during the coming season. It is impossible for a- team to perform at all creditably unless this is sufficiently indulged in. The Club is fortunate in havind lost verv few of its members, while "the number that have recently left College will prove a decided acquisition to our ranks, tlhus making. present vear's outlook decidedly encouraging. It should be the desire of each individual memiber to see the Old Boys at tht? top of the iree, and always in a. flounsn ing condition, and to see that the teams never go on the field without its full complement. Let each member wory energetically for the club, and when oi. I the field remember to play the mime in a true snor'tamanlike manner, and thir uphold the traditions .connected with tlrv Nelson College. The report and balance-sheet were ad cpted.
