NELSON COLLEGE OLD BOYS' ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. Members of the Nelson College Old Boy.-.' Association inet at Mr C. l'l. Fell s office yesterday afternoon, the occasion being the annual meeting of the Association. The chair was taken by the" .f resident, Dr. S. A. Gibbs. The hon. secretary (Mr C. H. Broad) presented the .annual report. This stat;. J that there 'had been a steady increa e iu members, the number of which now stand at 42-1. As the total number of o d boys, however, was apparently £i:XO, a large number yet remained to be c.r.ic led. The Governors 'had accepted a sum of £3B from the Association, and purchased a horse mower, the latter being imported from England free of charges by Messrs Buxton and Co., Ltd. Wit.i the tw 0 machines at work the ground was beginning to look like what it. w.15 intended to be—a cricket ground. It was considered t'hat the question of w:«.jring Mie ground mighty bo one which, might be legitimately discussed hy c Id boys .and it had been suggested that the water from the swimming baths n>igl.t be utilised for this purpose. The que.-tion of erecting brass memorial tabJets to old boys who had fallen in action had beeii favour-ably considered by the committee; but for financial reasons it was deemed advisable to postpone the matter till next year. There was already a memorial to Troopers Poole and Moel.er, who fell in the South. African war. at the College, and it was suggest', d that similar tablets should bo eiwicd to Captain St. George, who was killed at Te Power© in 1869 .and Serirt.Mai; v Leere, killed at Vereening, Transvaal. 1901. During tlie year a farewell social was tendered to Mr W. H. Moyes, who had joinedthe teaching staff at King's College. Messrs J. H. Fowler <ind W. V. Rout hnd been elected on the committee in place of Messrs W. Murray and W. H. Moyes, who had left Nelson. The, cost of the publication of the Old jjovs' Register showed a los =to date of £2B. Fifty subscriptions were still to come in, and there were 120 copies in hand. The finances of the Association were in a satisfactory state, there being a credit balance o. £44 Is 7d. The incoming committee were asked to consider the question of constructing a fives court at the Co] l<>ge. it being considered that such a court would prove a valuable adjunct to the cricket ground and tennis .court. The report and balance-sheet were adopted on Mr C. R. Fell's motion. N-.tice of motion having been given, it \yj.s resolved to hold the annual meetings of the Association in future during th.i month of May, or as n*ar that month as possible. It was dec : ded on the motion of Mr J. Houlker that when funds permitted memorial tablets to old boys who had fallen in action be erected.
No action, was taken in regard to a su<----?stion by a Blenheim, old boy that th-e Association should secure special blazers for members. The secretary was requested to make inquiries as to the cost of a fives court, and to report at the next meeting. 'i'he election of officers resulted a? follows:—President. Er. Gibbs (re elected ; all the old-Vice-Presidents were elected, with the addition of Mr ii. T. Sadd (Nelson) and G. W. Barltrop 'Wellington); committee. Messrs J- H. Fowler, F. I. Ledger, C. It. Fell, W. V. Rout. J. Houlker, W. Houlker, G. Richmond. W. C. Harlev, and H. Harlev. Hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr C. H. Tiroad (re-elected). The meeting closed with votes of thanks to the prers and the j."resident.
