SCHOOL COMMITTEE ALLOWANCES.
DRAFT COPY" OP REGULATIONS
A copy of the draft regulations defining incidental expenses of School Committees approved by the Educa-tion-Committee of the House of Representatives was read at yesterday's meeting of the Education Board. These provide that the incidental expei:~es of School ■Committees shall inclnde expenditure under the following heads: — (1) Cleaning: namely, the complete and "regular cleaning and keeping in order of buildings, furniture, fixtures, appartus, and appliances in all the school premises including class rooms, tea-chers' rooms, passages, lavatories, libraries,. laboratories, workshops, outbuildings, drains, water triiks, wells etc.; sanitarv and other offices, coft of requisites for cleaning; cost of fumigation when ordered by "the Health Officer or otherwise deemed necesary. (2) Heating: namely cost of fuel and other items connected with the healing of the school premises, sweeping chimneys, replacing of coal scuttles, fire-irons, etc.
(3) Lighting: water service and sanitary service; all expenditure on thesy-items when -necessary
. (,s\ Grounds: Repairs and keeping in o:der of the school grounds, fences, hedges, paths, gates, etc. and inelud. ing the clearing o £ gorse, broom, briflr, and all noxious weeds, but does not include cost of replacing wc.rr.-out fences and gates. .
(5 Repairs of all buildings, furniture. fixtures, apparatus and appiiauccs on school .premises that are reraered necessary by wilful or careless damage, and generally all small repairs other than those due to wear and tear, fire, earthquake or storm. (C.) Stationery: the cost of all stationary such as ink. pens, slates, si:; tr-pencils, lead-pencils, erasers •chalk, blackboard dusters, blotting paper, and other similar requisites in school for school purposes ard all paper required for examination purposes; cost of stationery used for the transaction of the business of the School Committee. Further the incidential expenses of School Committees may include, at the discretion of the Board:— (?.* The cost of all paper and other stationery used in school for school .purposes. (b) The salary of a caretaker nppoirted to have custody of the school buildings and to perform all or any of the duties specified above; rent of ihe caretaker's quarters and all reprirs to the same. <"<-•1 Further, if -provision has been maJe for the cost of all the items specified in "a" School Committee allowances may be expended as the Board shall direct for school - for pictures for the school walls; for asphalting and other im-pio--ements of the school premises.
It was resolved to leave the matter in Ihe hand s of the Secretary to drqxt n by-law to meet the necessary amendments and report to the Board at its next meeting.
