Another of the fast-diminishing band of pioneer settlers has .passed away in tlie person of Mr. T. Tunnicliffe, wh<o died on Wednesday evening, ait the residence of his son-in-law; Mr P. Rough ton, of Brigh.twa.ter, at the age of 77. The late Mr. Tunnicliffe came out from the Old' Country with his parents, as a boy. in 1842, in the .ship "Clifford," .and * for many years was engaged in farming at Sjprin-g Grove, where he was welL and favourably known as an- upright, and honest man, and also a keen sportsman. On retiring from his farm, having sold out to Messrs Newman Bros some three years ago, ho and Mrs. Tunnicliffe vicnt to live with their daughter, Mrs. P. Ro-ugihton.

An Auckland press telegram received last nigivt says:—The presentation of the Stead Gold Medal and Certificate of the Eoj'al Humane Society was made to Mr McPherson, ol : Auckland, by the Mayor. The Stead Medal, was founded by the late Mr G. >G. Stead 10 years ago. and it has on this occasion been awarded for the second tiiu.e. On the occasion of the Strand Arcade fire in Queen-street, in Aug: st. 1909, Mr McPherson at the imimiient risk of iris life, rescued one of the tenants of the building (Mr Crouch') from a position of great peril. Mr McFherson was -previously awarded a medal for distinguished bravery in saving life.
