WAKEFIELD.
TENNIS CONCERT

The Wakefield Tennis Club's concert and di.inc-o wais held in t'he Oddfellows' Hull on Wcrneeday evening, before a
bumper house. The concent was a success in every way. Many of the it onus were vociferously encored. The programmewas lengthy, and provided plenty uf variety. The items which called torth encores wore as follow* :—Qna.rt.ettc. Mes.-u-s Henderson. Cameron, Poole and Gra.ingei-; smug. Kingsrand, w'.ith \ J i<>litr and cello. aioeomipanimtint ; descriptive song, .Misses T. Thomas, H. Harris. L. Peart, and 1). Price ; songs, Mr. Tho<m,pon and Mr. Hintz (comic). The latter made pome very telling local hits; sailor's hornpipe, Miss Tyron. Other items which were well received were— by Miss Price, Mn-. W. May. McMsrs Haiidma.n, lameron. and (! rainier : trio. Misses Palmer; nart song. Mis.-; Morrison and Mr. Lightband. 'This itom was Tendered under dillicnlt ies. owing to the fact that the stage was enveloped in smoke from coloured lights t,ha.t were used in coninection .with the duseriptive song just .previous. The skirt dance by"Mis.-e,s T. Thomas, H. Harris, L. Peart, and D. Price, and a picture »ong by several Wakcriekl ladies, a isort ot'tabfeau, both of which, wore very ipretty. and mea-ited the appreciation received. Both parts of the concert was opened by instrumental s-olectiuiis by Messns T7 White. A. Edun. P. Green, J!. Eden and Douglas. Mr. 11. J. Harris acted as stage manager, and apologised for the absence of Mr. Henderson. Messrs C'leWuid and Foster ,each of whose names appeared on the programme. After the concert was over the room ww cleared and dancing was indulged in by a large company. The floor and the nuisie was of the best. The funds of the Tennis Club should bo considerably augmented by the .receipts from the entu.rta.inme>nt.
OBITUARY. The many friends of Mr T. .A. Aldridge (late staiion.ma.ster ot Helgrovc). will regret to beau' of his death, which occurred at Auckland on Saturday last. The la.te Mr. Aldridge made many friends while resident at Belgrovo. Since leaving Belgrove Mr Aldridge was stationed down the Coast, and latterly. owing to ill-health, lias be.em iiii charge of the l'otonia station. having been, moved to the .latter 'Staition in order that lie might have the benefit of the baths. Unfortunately Mr. Aldridge'is case was a hopeless one. gradually becoming worse until he was forced {o retire from the service ju-'t. recently. He wa,s a .comparatively young man. leaving a widow and tamilv. The deceased was a member of the local Oddfellows' Lodge.
