Divines Since the .htst meeting of j.mr Council the road-roller, in rolling Wamea-strei t. at the intersection of Hardy-street, broke through into the main storm water •Kiueduct. On making investigations, it was discovered that the aqueduct at this point in a very defective condition, and'at the point where the road-roller went in the brick work had been completely removed bv the recent heavy floods" Repairs to this part have been completed, but additional defects have been discovered which require early attention. The aqueduct is also badly silted i:,p. both in Hardv and Waimea--treets. and likely to entail the expenditure of a good sum of money. 1 would like the authority of the Council to proceed with the work. Water: Since the bust meeting of your Council the upper weir has been emptied with a view of removing- silt from the intake, but owing to rain "setting in operations were suspended pending more fettled weather conditions". (',;•«: l n this connection the staff are still engaged in necking for and rmaiiring leaks in main- in Waimea-street and other .streets. This is likely to be a lemgithy operation, and will doubtless require" many renewal.-. 1 therefore would like the authority c f your Council to procure a.bout ten tons of 3in. and 4in .mains for this purpose. It is i.i-.perative that this matter should not be licglec ted. and I again ask your Council to give the matter of a .general inspection and necessary renewals their serious consideration.
