A disastrous: lire occurred in the )3ou thorn Gross Jiiseni t Company's premises tins morning, whereby tinwhole factory and contents were completely ' destroyed, iiu-'luding buildings, coiiijiosing, bread, biseut, £• it 11 confectionery departments. The lire started in the rear of the factory, near the broad department, amd aided by a strong wind, soon enveloped tiie whole buildings. There Mas a poor pressure in the water mains, owing to there being ''dead ends,"' and only the arrival of the ifire engine -aved the flour mill adjoining. -Fears were entertained of thi' fire spreading to the tramway power-house and sheds adjoining, and tlie ears were run our to the open, but the only da mag.' was that the cable was slightly scorched, and the switchboard soaked with Aval or.
