A TRIBUTE.
TO MR. J. W. JOYNT. Some neatly-turned verses in praise of Mr. J. W. Joynt, Registrar of the University, were sung by Mr. H. F. von Haast. at the dinner given to Mr. Joynt on Saturday night, to the tune of "Father O'Flynn." The verses caused much merriment, and the audience joined wit-h great spirit in the chorus. The following are typical stanzas : Who is beloved by the whole University? Who of ripe scholarship has not a scarcity '! ■Students exclaim without any diversity "That Is our popular Registrar Joynt." S-00-j] he is leaving .and crossing the >~ea. Varsity agent in London to be. Hence this farewellin-g. our sorrow we're quelling, The praisee we're swelling of Registrar Joynt. Chorus : Here's a health to our Registrar Joynt, to his record, with praise ne can point. Patron aesthetic and man energetic, and friend sympathetic, J. W. Joynt. Who. when the task in this town was a dreary 'un, Life in the evenings a wasted and wea-ry 'un, Helped to establish the drama Shakespearean ? That was our scholarly Registrar Joynt. Music and art were both languishing tsore, When to revive them he came to the fore, Strengthening our fibres, sand getting subscribers, and crushing the gibers, J. W. Joynt. Soon .he'll be back by the lakcis of Killarney, And .giving the colleens a taste of his blarney. With Katb-een Mavourneen and also Kate Kearney, One on each side of bould Registrar Joyart. When he getis tired of code words and marks. Back to his green little island he harks. Boycotting doily, and dancing jigs gaily. and twirling shillelagh, J. W. joynt. Now let liim see what you think of his quality. Give him a taste of your fun and frivolity, Shout out that -chorus of jovial jollity, "Joi'ly good fellow" is Registrar Joynt. When he embarks- on his- new scholar- - * hi PWe'll n-rasp his hand in a long parting grip. Eyes .strangely wetting, and always regretting, but never forgetting, tur Registrar Joynt.
