Tho trial of John Black, charged with stealing moneys from Freeman Ltd.. coit'-v'uled with a verdict of guilty, with a recommendation for mercy. Mr Justice Burnside said that the prisoner had backed up serious frauds with perjury, and sentenced him to five years' hard labour. (Black, who Svas accountant to Freeman and Co., alleged that he falsified tho books under the orders of one of the partners in the firm. The defalcations amounted to some thousands).
