THE NOMINATIONS. Mr Jesse Piper was nominated for re-election as Mayor of Nelson loday .by Messrs A. A, Grace and Wilson. TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln respect to Mr Pettit's speech reported in yours of Friday, wherein he says that "Mr Piper at ane time strongly advocated that the (Mayoral) officesnould be a rolling one, and when it rolled to him he did not want it to roll any further." Since the late Mr Trask's first election I supported him for nine years. His sons and family know that. I have always acted upon the- principle that the office of Mayor (unlike the English system), is an elective one. It is for the public to say who shall represent them, and not for any section of the community or individual. There are other matters in his speech as inaccurate as this, which I shall reply to upon the platform. I am, yours etc.. J. PIPER.
