Hay's report m the JNelsoii drainage system. Jjr. •Valentine stated that the essential ai' the report and reconi'mcuduiiuiiij contained therein were quite in accord with the wishes of the Deparaieut,. and # faithfully carried out should provide the city with an effective system cf sewerage. The Aiayor was very pleased thu: the Health Officer agreed with Mi Kay. The Health' Officer had iwi imay s agreed with Mr Hay. Cr. Grace moved that copies of tlic letter be sent to Mr Hay and to Air Aiestayer, both of whom ' would be greatly : interested in the letter froi:: the Health Department. The essentials of the report, Dr. Vaiintine's letter stated, wer e in accord with the wishes of the Department, Air Hay's report generally was favourable, an exception being th o leakage in the Wood. If the Council had given way and adopted the six recommendations of Dr. Prengley, the Council .would have been dragged at the tail of tlie Health Department, /and that would have been a most ignominious position. The letter only showed *M; when it was right the Council should stick to its suns.
