The New Zealand appeals Hamilton Gas Company versus the Mayor of Hamilton, and Greville versus Parker, were allowed, with costs. In Hussey versus Miles, leave to appeal in forma- pauperis was refused.
MELBOURNE. Monday. A severe earth tremor has been experienced at TJ'arragul, when pottery was thrown from the shelves. The tremor lasted several seconds. SYDNEY, Sunday. The Japanese warships Sayo and Aso have reached Sydney. They received the usual salutes, and official visits were exchanged. WANGANUI, Saturday. The Union Boating Club's crew, which won the Australian champion fours at Hobart regatta, returned home to-day, and were accorded a hearty welcome. New Zealand's champion band played them from the railway station to the Borough Chambers. WELLINGTON. Sunday. The principal results of the Wellington "Times" newspaper competition are as follows:—First prize, a trip round the world. Miss Bodmin. 2.174,615 votes; second prize, a piano valued at 100 guineas. William Webb of Waugauui. 1,557,215 votes; third prize, a motor cycle valued at £6O. E. Gallichan, of Wellington, 1,218.193 votes; fourth prize, a trip round Australia, E. A. Connelly, of Petone, 1.059,255 votes; sth prize, a gold watch valued at £2O. E. T. Taylor, 'of Wellington, 714,180 votes.
