Sir Ernest Shackleton is planning a purely scientific geographical expedition towards the end of 1911* and not

competing with (aptain Scott. Sir tiniest 'Shaekleton's abases will be Cap P Adair and Adeliland, and he wi'l explore between Gflpe Adair and Gaussborg. The staff will include some of his old companions, and Mr Douglas Matvson. of Sydney, will ibe scientific director. Financial support is already promised. VIEWS OF PROFESSOR DAVID. THE MAGNETIC SOUTH POLE. (Received 10.4 a.m.) SVDNSY, Monday.

Professor David considers that the area Sir Ernest Shackleton proposes to explore offers great possibilities from a geographical and general scientific aspect. He says that possibly another visit would be made to the magnetic South Pole, information regarding what was of much importance, not only to science, but to navigation. Mr Mawson, said Professor David, would be an ideal scientific director.
