The preliminary report of vital statistics for New South Wales for 1909 gives the population at the end of las', year as 1,645,444, an increase of 40,435. Marriages numbered 13,048, or 8.03 per thousand, the highest record for 22 years; births 43,769, or 26.94 per thousand; deaths 9.75 per thousand, the lowest rate on record and 9 per cent, below the mean record of the past ten years.J
